2822365 - Maintenance of BW Generation namespaces

The consulting note:

• 401778 - Use of namespaces for development of own BW objects

describes in general the general rules of how and with which naming conventions own namespaces and the generation namespaces within BW are to be maintained.

In case the namespace is maintained in a way, that the namespace itself is used also as generation namespace, errors like:

• "Invalid BW namespace definition"
• Customer appends on various tables can be lost during an upgrade
• etc.

can happen.

Such an example is, when the namespace /ABC/ is used and the generation namespace is also called /ABC/. This is wrong, since the generation namespace must fullfill certain criterias. Quote from the note above:

The generation namespace is requested in the same way as the development namespace. The generation namespace can have a maximum of seven characters (including the "/" character); "B" must be the first character and the remaining characters must be numbers (for example, /B2345/ or /B24/). The descriptive text must begin with "BWGEN". The namespace that is assigned to this should then follow. For example: "BWGEN generation namespace for /ABC/ company ABC....". The shorter the generation namespace, the more significant characters are available for the technical names of the BW objects.
Caution: The five-digit generation name spaces from /B00/ up to /B99/ are already used. SAP is currently working to improve the tool so that it is easier to find the generation name spaces that are still free. To simplify the reservation, the generation name spaces that are already used are attached to this note.

The purpose of the KBA is to provide guideance what steps can be performed, when the generation namespace was not properly maintained.
