2823912 - Error message when saving MDF Custom Object

Symptom

When saving an MDF object or making a change to a field an error is triggered:

The message definition [xxxxxxx] used in rule [xxxxxxx] doesn’t exist.

"Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental." 

Environment

  • SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite
  • Metadata Framework (MDF)
  • SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Manage Data or people profile
  2. Create/change an MDF object record
  3. Save
  4. Error "The message definition [xxxxxxx] used in rule [xxxxxxx] doesn’t exist." is triggered

Cause

A Validate Business Rule is triggering a message that has been deleted in Manage Data > Message Defiition

Resolution

  1. Go to Configure Object Definitions
  2. Search for the Object affected
  3. Open the affected business rule
  4. Delete it or update it with an existing Message
