2827883 - Latest Start of the Following Operation Earlier Than the Latest Start of the Preceding Operation

Symptom

You have created a Production Order with multiple Operations. When you check the Order, you discover that the system has proposed a Latest Start date for an Operation, that is earlier than the Latest Start of the preceding Operation. You assume that the Operations should be started according to the sequence maintained. You would like to know why and how the system is calculating this date.

Environment

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Navigate to the Production Control work center.
  2. Go to the Production Orders view and select By Order Header.
  3. Find and select the relevant Production Order.
  4. Click the Edit button.
  5. Go to the Order Structure tab and Expand All.
  6. You can see that the Operation ABC is followed by Operation XYZ (ABC and XYZ represent different Element IDs of the Operations).
  7. However, when comparing the values in the Latest Start column, the Operation XYZ and its corresponding Activity have an earlier Latest Start date than the preceding Operation ABC and its corresponding Activity.

Cause

You have used connections in the Bill of Operations as can be seen in the Production Model. The Operations under connection will be executed in parallel to other Operations out of connection. This is the behavior when connection is used. This is the reason that the Operation under connection may have a Latest Start date prior to the first Operation out of connection.

If no Operation is under connection, then sequential execution takes place.

Resolution

System is behaving as designed.
