2827948 - WS execution error in CTSDEPLOY: Deserializing fails

Symptom

The following error happens during the deploy step of a transport request:

E- WS execution error in CTSDEPLOY (cx_ai_system_fault)
E- SoapFaultCode:4 Deserializing fails. Nested message: XML Deserialization Error. XML Parser has thrown exception while parsing input
E- See nested exception..

The nested exception (found in the defaultTrace.*.trc from the J2EE server defined in CTSDEPLOY destination) shows the following additional information:

Caused by: com.sap.engine.lib.xml.parser.ParserException: XMLParser : \#31 not allowed in Character data sections (:main:, row:1, col:0)
