2833568 - System Displays an Error While Changing Serial Number Profile

Symptom

When trying to change the serial number profile from Mandatory on all Logistics & Production Process to any other value for a material, system displays the below error message even though all Inbound, Outbound tasks are Finished and Production Lots are closed.

"Open task found for material; serial profile cannot be changed"

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Product Data work center.
  2. Navigate to the Materials view.
  3. Search for the relevant material, select it and choose the Edit button.
  4. Choose View All and under the General tab, it can be seen that the value in the field Serial Number Profile is Mandatory on all Logistics & Production Process. Here, when trying to change the serial number profile to any other profile the above mentioned error is faced.

Cause

PI Count Document created is still "In Process" for the relevant material. It is necessary to complete the Count Tasks as well as PI Count Document ID at the header level. In case, PI document has multiple line items and it was completed count tasks only for the relevant material then also system will not allow changing the profile as PI count document is still In Process. It must be Approved, and status should be Finished at header level.

Resolution

  1. Go to the Physical Inventory work center.
  2. Go to the Monitoring view and choose By PI Count Document sub view.
  3. Open the advanced Filter and enter required Product ID under section: Count Item Data.
  4. Choose Go.
  5. Here it can be seen a PI Count Document ID generated for the relevant product with status "In Process".
  6. Edit it and navigate to Count Tasks tab and check if it is with status Finished. If not, then first complete the Count Task.
  7. Once it is done, go back and select PI Count Document ID.
  8. Select it and choose Approve Count.
  9. Here the system changes the status of the PI Document to Finished.
  10. Now go to relevant material master data and it can be changed the serial number profile to any required value.
