2843962 - Characteristic Hierarchy in Report Shows Too Many Entries per Node

Symptom

You have created a report with a few characteristics in the view, for example Territory and Employee. You set a characteristic hierarchy on one of the fields, e.g. Territory in our example. All territories are now arranged according to the hierarchy maintained in the system, however now the second field (Employee) shows too many entries per territory. However when you switch off the characteristic hierarchy, the data is correct again.

Environment

  • SAP Business ByDesign
  • SAP Cloud for Customer

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the work center Business Analytics and the view Design Reports.
  2. Open your report containing a hierarchy. In our example, the view contains the fields Territory and Employee, and there is a characteristic hierarchy on Territory.
  3. You will see that the Employee field shows all employees that belong to a territory and its subordinate territories.

Cause

When you create a characteristic hierarchy, the second field that you add will show all entries for all subordinate nodes of the first field.

Resolution

You can either register this as an enhancement suggestion on the Continuous Influence Session (ByD and C4C), or as a workaround, you can switch off the characteristic hierarchy and use the table hierarchy instead.
