2844931 - Access Context in Cloud Data Sources

Symptom

You have created a cloud data source, and maybe further combined or joined data sources which use the cloud data source. You would like to understand how the access context will be applied in objects that involve a cloud data source.

Environment

  • SAP Business ByDesign
  • SAP Cloud for Customer

Resolution

Cloud data sources have no access context and it is currently not possible to assign one to them. If you create a report based on a cloud data source, there will be no access context and you will need to set other kinds access control in place, for example fixed value selections or by assigning the report to certain work centers only.

Combined data sources that use a cloud data source will have the access context of the other data source that is involved. However, this access context only applies to the data source where it comes from. The data from the cloud data source is unrestricted.

In joined data sources that use a cloud data source, you can set the access context of the other data source that is involved. This access context is then passed on to the data from the cloud data source. If using a left outer join, please make sure that you set the anchor to the data source with the required access context.
