2856720 - Error 12309 while performing an expanding UPDATE - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • The following error is reported in the ASE errorlog:

Error: 12309, Severity: 21, State: 11
Expanding update on object 'tbl_irlc' in database 'tdb1' cannot succeed on page 12827, because the contiguous_free_bytes of 1522 is less than the difference of 2124 between new rowlen and old rowlen. This is an internal error.

  • It is followed by a stack trace that includes functions:

dol__expand
dol__update_datapage
dol__update_forward_page
dol__update_datapage
dol_update
