2861386 - Leading Zeros Disappear In Material ID

You are trying to save a Material Id with leading zeros in it. When you choose the Save button you see that the leading Zeros maintained in the material Id is removed by the system.

1. Go to Product Data work center. 
2. Navigate to the Common Tasks view and choose the option New Material. 
3. In the New Material screen, enter the Material Id with leading zeros and other relevant mandatory information. 
4. Choose the Save button. 

You see that the leading zeros maintained in the material Id is removed automatically by the system.

Your Material Id has only integers. When the Material Id has only numerical digits the system treats the material Id as a number and for numbers leading zeros does not hold any value. This is the reason why the system removes leading zeros from Material Id that has only integers in them.

If you do not want to have the system remove leading zeros from your material Id, make sure that you add at least one special character in the material Id so that the system treats the material Id as text and not numbers.

For eg: If you enter your material id with three leading zeros like this 000123456789, the system will delete the leading zeros. You can choose to maintain your material Id as 000-123456789 and the system will not delete your leading zeros.
