Symptom

  • Query with large in-list performs poorly.
  • set statistics time may display a large value in Parse and Compile Time (the number of CPU ticks taken to parse, optimize, and compile the query) for the query.
  • set showplan may display "OR List has up to <a large value> rows of OR/IN values" in SCAN Operator.
