Symptom
Creating an asset results in error AC520 (Depreciation key &1 is not defined in chart of depreciation &2).
Environment
- SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Enter Manage Fixed Assets app.
- Enter the create asset function.
- Enter the parameters needed for the asset.
- Save the newly created asset and error is raised.
Cause
The issue is caused by selecting a depreciation key that is not available for the Accounting Principle which is assigned to that ledger. The depreciation key might have been selected implicitly via the asset class default setting (SSCUI 102609).
Prior to the upgrade in 1902, one chart of depreciation was assigned to all depreciation areas in a company code. Therefore, for all converted companies it was still possible to have assigned Accounting Principle bound with the same chart of depreciation (i.e. Accounting Principle ESAP to 2410 and Accounting Principle IFRS to 2410).
After 1902, for all newly created company codes will only have standard deliver content, meaning for local Accounting Principle ESAP will be assigned chart of depreciation 2410, while Accounting Principle IFRS will always be assigned chart of depreciation IFRS.
Resolution
Please check the depreciation keys that are available via "Depreciation Key: Display Details" which available with Business Role SAP_BR_BPC_EXPERT and assign an available one to avoid the error.
