Resolution

While static groups can be manually imported and adjusted, dynamic groups are designed to operate automatically based on attribute criteria. Please find below the main differences:

Dynamic Groups:

Dynamic groups are a type of permission group that automatically includes members based on certain criteria or attributes. These criteria can be things like job title, department, location, or any other attribute present in the user profiles. As these attributes change, the group membership updates automatically, ensuring that users always have the appropriate permissions without manual intervention. Dynamic groups are highly useful in larger organizations where maintaining access rights for employees can be complex and time-consuming.

To create dynamic groups, follow the instructions at Creating Dynamic Permission Groups | SAP Help Portal

Note: It is not possible to add multiple users to multiple dynamic groups. The reason for this distinction lies in the core functionality of dynamic groups – their automatic membership management. To maintain the integrity of this automation, we recommend managing dynamic group memberships by ensuring that user attributes accurately reflect their roles or criteria for membership. Introducing an import feature similar to static groups for dynamic groups might compromise the very essence of automation that dynamic groups offer.

Static Groups:
Static groups, on the other hand, are permission groups where members are manually added or removed by administrators. Unlike dynamic groups, static groups require manual upkeep. When new employees join the organization or changes occur in the employee's role or department, administrators must manually adjust the group membership to ensure proper access rights. Static groups are often used when very specific and controlled access is needed, or when the group membership criteria are not easily defined by attributes.

To create static groups, follow the instructions at Creating Static Permission Groups | SAP Help Portal

Instead of opening static groups one by one to add members, you can add multiple members to several static groups all at once with a CSV file. See Adding Multiple Members to Static Groups | SAP Help Portal.
