Symptom

  • SAP ASE installation using the setup.bin utility fails:

Installing...
....

Installation Completed
---------------------- 
The installation failed. 
Please check the installer log file "/<path_to_installation_dir>/log/ASE_Suite.log" and consult SAP Support at http://service.sap.com.

  • ASE_Suite.log shows the following error:

Custom Action: com.sybase.ia.common.InstallMergeModuleStatus
Status: FATAL ERROR
Additional Notes: FATAL ERROR - class com.sybase.ia.common.InstallMergeModuleStatus FatalInstallException: Adaptive Server Enterprise: FAILED. See log file /<path_to_installation_dir>/log/ase.log for detail.

  • This is the error in ase.log:

Install File: /<path_to_installation_dir>/./ASE-16_0/bin/dataserver
Status: ERROR
