Symptom

While trying to run update statistics on a proxy table" the following message is received:

Msg 11290, Level 11, State 2:

Server 'myserver', Line 1:
Column statistics for column 'c' in index 'i1' is unavailable or incomplete in the remote server.
UPDATE STATISTICS will not run in import mode.

Why does this message happen and how is it resolved?
