2878366 - Incumbent and Nominee Bench Strength return no values in Ad Hoc Reports

Symptom

In Ad Hoc Reports, the columns "Incumbent Bench Strength" and "Nominee Bench Strength", for Succession domains, return empty. Even though, the information for Bench Strength is shown in Succession Org Chart.

Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.

Environment

  • SAP SuccessFactors Succession Management
  • SAP SuccessFactors Analytics - Ad Hoc Reports

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Analytics/Reporting > Report Center;
  2. Create New Ad Hoc Report (Report - Table);
  3. Select the Succession domain;
  4. Specify the report definitions;
  5. In "Columns" tab, include the columns "Incumbent Bench Strength" and "Nominee Bench Strength";
  6. Run the report;
  7. The columns "Incumbent Bench Strength" and "Nominee Bench Strength" are empty:

  1. However, in Succession Org Chart, the Bench Strength is shown correctly:

Cause

The incumbent and nominee Bench Strength information on Ad Hoc Report is a static information from Employee Profile (User attribute), and not related to the dynamic information displayed for Bench Strength in Succession Org Chart.

Resolution

Currently, there are two different and not automatically synced, Bench Strength information:

  • The dynamic Bench Strength shown for positions in Succession Org Chart, where the system calculates the most "ready" successors of a target position;
  • The static Bench Strength shown for users. A standard field configured in the XML code of your instance, and defined for users manually in the Employee Profile, or via import of Extended User Information.

The columns "Incumbent Bench Strength" and "Nominee Bench Strength" in Ad Hoc Reports are based on the standard element defined for users (user attributes), and maintained manually (in Employee Profile or via import), not the system calculated field from Succession Org Chart.

When running the Ad Hoc Report, the column  for Incumbent and Nominee Bench Strength may return empty, due to users not having a value populated for the standard element "Bench Strength" in Employee Profile. You can verify if users have values for Bench Strength - which is a static value, and do not represent the same dynamic value from Succession Org Chart - by exporting the User Information File in Admin Center > Export Extended User Information.

To see the nomination details of a position/incumbent, use the column "Nomination Readiness" in Ad Hoc Reports, as it will show the values of each nomination from a position/incumbent in Succession Org Chart.

Although, this is the current system expected behavior in Ad Hoc Reports, there are already enhancement ideas, to have the system calculated information from Succession Org Chart retrieved in Ad Hoc Reports. To have this idea considered to became a future enhancement, provide kudos and comments in the bellow ideas from our Customer Influence Portal:
