2879435 - Depreciation Method and Useful Life Definition When Using Default Fixed Asset Migration Template

You have two set of books for your company and after uploading fixed assets using the basic/default migration template, you notice a different depreciation method and useful life from the data maintained in the uploaded template for one of the set of books.

SAP Business ByDesign.

1. Go to Business Configuration work center.
2. Go to Implementation Projects view.
3. Open the activity list and open activity Migration of Accounting Transaction Data.
4. Via migration tool, migrate the desired fixed assets using the default fixed asset template (not the extended template).
5. Once asset is migrated, go to Fixed Assets work center.
6. Go to Fixed Assets view.
7. Open the migrated asset.
8. Go to Master Data -> Asset Valuation.

You noticed that for one set of books the depreciation method and useful life have been populated as per the data in the excel file from migration, however for the valuation views of the second set of books the data is not the same.

When you migrate the asset via default migration template, the data from the file is used as master data for the asset within the default set of books for the company only. However, for the second set of books, the data is not copied over from the default set of books, instead the depreciation code and useful life are derived from the defaults maintained for the asset class and each valuation view in activity Fixed Asset Classes.

In this scenario (two set of books / default asset migration) the data related to the amounts is migrated to all valuation views of the set of books depending on the autocomplete method chosen upon migration (Copy, Copy including the posted depreciation of the current year or Calculate Historically (default)). The valuation view settings for the second set of books is derived from the asset class in any case.

You can check the default set of books via General Ledger work center -> Sets of Books and Assigned Companies.

This is the designed system behavior. For the second set of books, when using default migration template, please review the maintained default values as follows:

1. Go to Business Configuration work center.
2. Go to Implementation Projects view.
3. Open the activity list and open activity Fixed Asset Classes.
4. Highlight the relevant asset class.
5. Check and maintain the values under tab Default Valuation Settings.
