Symptom
The user A is planner reporter
In DIM1 dimension, the Data access Control is activated and defineded as follows: Planner reporter (user A) can only read the data for Member1 and can not change it.
In the story , the user A, can see the data “Member1” and can also modify the data.
He can change the data.
It seems that he can not save the modified data.
After logon/logoff, when he came back, he can see the data….
The following messages should appear (but the customer does not receive any of them and data is saved):
-Due to limited access rights, some of the data can't be saved. Do you want to save everything except those data?
-Some of your data changes can't be published because of limited access rights. Those changes will be lost. Do you want to publish everything else?"
Environment
- SAP Analytics Cloud
Cause
The behavior is deliberate and a design decision of SAC.
Resolution
The behavior is deliberate and a design decision of SAC: Data can always be manipulated within a private version. It is your private sandbox, not visible to anyone which allows you to run different scenarios, doing what-ifs etc. With Data Locks being present the tables are read-only and in the Quick Action Menu the data locking state can even be shown. However locking in private versions can be turned off by end users (see sandbox). During publish there is a hard enforcement of the data locks securing public data. So if anyone really needs read-only tables, they should turn off planning.
All data changes in SAC are done in private versions. Private Versions are as persistent as public versions are. The process of editing a public version implicitly also uses private versions. When finalizing the public version edit the data need to be published. That is when changes of the private version data are copied to the original public version and the private version is deleted.
