2882356 - Error while uploading a custom XDC in ADS

Symptom

Using the report RSPO0022 to upload a custom XDC which was developed according to SAP Note 766410, the below error appears:
XDC API error ADS: com.adobe.ProcessingException:
Message No. PO114

In addition, the following error message can be found in the default trace:
Caused by: com.adobe.ProcessingException: Error while executing XDC operation:
Error Uploading XDC: Error uploading file: <DRIVE>:\\usr\\sap\\<SID>\\SYS\\global\\AdobeDocumentServices\\lib\\XDC\\Customer\\<XDC> size:xxxxx.
File is not a valid xdc file. Please check the path and/or extension case.
