2882683 - "Query results exceeded the row count limit of xxx. Please edit your query to acquire fewer" error appears in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)

Symptom

The following error message occurs in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC):

  • Query results exceeded the row count limit of xxx. Please edit your query to acquire fewer
  • Query results exceeded the column count limit of xxx. Please upload different data, or edit your query to acquire fewer columns.

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud (Enterprise) 
  • Import Data Connection

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create data model.
  2. Schedule an update.
  3. In Data Management under Data Timeline observe error message.

Cause

  • Data acquisition workflow has a set of limits and restrictions, depending on the data sources and content types(account model, new model, dataset). The error appears at when the acquired data exceeds the limit.
  • Learn more details about the row, column, and cell limits for different data acquisition from Help Guide - System Sizing, Tuning, and Limits.
 

Resolution

  • If the amount of data that need's to be updated now is above its limit, the way to import it is by filtering, so dividing data into chunks and uploading it. Filtering data on parameter X and uploading it, then filtering it on parameter everything but X and uploading again.
  • To avoid this situation in the future, set import updates more often with specifying filters in scheduling query settings.
