Symptom

The following error messages occur in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC):

  • Query results exceeded the row count limit of xxx. Please edit your query to acquire fewer
  • Query results exceeded the column count limit of xxx. Please upload different data, or edit your query to acquire fewer columns.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create data model.
  2. Schedule an update.
  3. In Data Management under Data Timeline observe error message.

Cause

  • Data acquisition workflow has a set of limits and restrictions, depending on the data sources and content types(account model, new model, dataset). The error appears at when the acquired data exceeds the limit.

Resolution

  • If the volume of data to be updated exceeds the supported limit, split the data into smaller batches and import each batch separately.

    • For example, apply a filter for parameter X and run the import. Then, modify the filter to exclude parameter X and import the remaining data. Repeat this process as required until all data has been imported.

  • To avoid this issue in the future, schedule imports more frequently and apply appropriate filters in the query scheduling settings. This reduces the volume of data processed by each import job and helps prevent the limit from being exceeded.
