Symptom

How to make Google/Bing search for the jobs on my career site ( Sitemap Submission )

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting Marketing (RMK) - All versions

Cause

This is a feature supported by each of the search engines (Google, Bing, etc.) companies  and not under scope of SFSF

Resolution

The examples used will be on Google and Bing, please be advised that the screens below might change as each of the companies updates their interfaces, if that is the case, please search for support with the search engine directly.

Using Google:

  1. Access Google Webmaster and Create Property and sign into your company's Google account: https://www.google.com/webmasters/

  2. In Upper Right corner, click “Add Property” and Enter in Career Site URL

  3. Verify Ownership by selecting “HTML tag” under the “Other verification methods” section (https://www.google.com/webmasters/ ), and copy the meta name code between the parenthesis: (In example shown: FXtB0EQROf61pw2dbDfOulx66-UnSQv3RVuq5TilQ7s)

  4. In a separate window/tab, access Career Site Builder (CSB), and go to : Global > Settings > “Site” section, and paste the meta code into the “Google Webmaster ID” section and When completed, click “Save” in the upper right corner. Note: do not include parenthesis

  5. Going back the to Google Webmasters tab, click the “Verify" button under the HTML tag

  6. Once verified, a confirmation screen should come up. Click “Go To Property”

  7. In the Google Webmasters Property Menu, Select Index > Sitemaps and select “Add a new sitemap”.

  8. Going back to Career Site Builder (CSB), obtain the “sitemap” URLs
  9. Paste the sitemap subfolder sections of the URL
    Example: 
    ▫Career Site URL: jobs.testingsite.com
    ▫Main Sitemap: jobs.testingsite.com/testingsitemap.xml
    ▫Category Sitemap: jobs.testingsite.com/cat_testingsitemap.xml

    ** While submitting a sitemap, an error of “Couldn’t fetch” may appear under the status.  This should be temporary and should change to “Success” when page is refreshed.  

 

Using Bing:

  1. Access Bing Webmaster and "Add a Site" and sign into your company's Bing account (https://www.bing.com/webmaster/home/mysites)

  2. Under “My Sites”, enter in Career Site URL into “Add a Site” section and click “Add”

  3. Add the sitemap URL from CSB and click “Add”

  4. Now Verify Ownership by copying the meta code from Career Site Builder (CSB) (under Global > Settings > “Site” section) and when completed, click “Save” in the upper right
    Note: do not include parenthesis

  5. Now in the "Configure My Site" menu > "Sitemaps". Once open, you should have the screen “Submit a sitemap”.

  6. Going back to Career Site Builder (CSB), obtain the “sitemap” URLs and paste the sitemap subfolder sections of the URL
    Example: 
    ▫Career Site URL: jobs.testingsite.com
    ▫Main Sitemap: jobs.testingsite.com/testingsitemap.xml
    ▫Category Sitemap: jobs.testingsite.com/cat_testingsitemap.xml
