When using Google Chrome on an Android device, in an SAPUI5 application, it is impossible to delete text from a field that uses the typeahead feature. The autocomplete/autocorrect of the Android keyboard interacts in such a way with SAPUI5's typeahead feature that the text autocompletes as soon as the backspace button is pressed.
