2897972 - When Creating a Follow-Up Sales Order or Service Order from a Contract the Error occurs: Cannot create follow-up document; reference contract is not released

When creating a follow-up Sales Order or Service Order from a Contract the following error occurs even though the Contract is in status Released:

Cannot create follow-up document; reference contract is not released

SAP Business ByDesign

1. Go to Sales Orders work center.
2. Select the Contracts view.
3. Open Contract XYZ (XYZ represents the Contract ID).
4. Click on the Follow-Up button and select either the Service Order or the Sales Order option.
5. In the new Sales Order or Service Order document the following error occurs:
   Cannot create follow-up document; reference contract is not released
6. You checked the Contract XYZ and the status is Released. 

The Validity status of the Contract is Not Started.

If the Validity status of the Contract is not started a Follow-Up document such as a Sales Order or Service Order cannot be created. The Validity status of the Contract needs to be Active.

The Validity status of a Contract becomes Active when the Contract Start Date is reached.
