2897977 - SA unable to log in due to protocol packet error following a heap memory error- SAP ASE

Symptom

  • The following message is printed in the ASE errorlog:
    Server Could not obtain required number 'xxxxx' of resource of type 'Pss Heap Memory'. Since the process absolutely requires this resource, it is going to wait indefinitely till the resource becomes available. Please increase the configuration parameter 'heap memory per user'.

  • When user with sa_role attempts to log in to server to increase heap memory, login attempt fails with error:
    "ct_connect(): network packet layer: external error: There is a protocol packet error. An illegal length was received"
