2904306 - Cannot Create Extension Field of Type Formatted Text in Sales Order Products Section

You want to create a formatted text field in the products table of a sales order, but this is not possible.

SAP Cloud for Customer

1. Go to the Sales workcenter.
2. Go to the Sales Order view.
3. Open a relevant sales order.
4. Go to the Products facet.
5. From the user icon menu, select: Start Adaptation.
6. Select the Products section to add a field here.
7. Select Add Field.
8. Select Create Fields.
9. Select Business context as Sales Quote - Item and Type as Formatted Text.
10. Enter a Label value.
11. Select Save and Close.

Upon Save and Close, you will see that the field you created is not available in the list of extension fields.

This is a system limitation regarding field of type Formatted Text.
This type of field needs a special control that consumes more space than available in a list cell. Hence, we do not offer for adding fields of this type when adding fields to a list.
The creation of fields is always object-based and it's not possible to restrict the field types based on context (List, for example) when creating them.

This is why the field that was just created does not appear in the list of available fields to add to the list.

This is system behaviour as designed.
