2911908 - Error 940 State 11 in master database - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • ASE errorlog reports Error 940 for the master database:

Error: 940, Severity: 26, State: 11
Dbtable in wrong state for operation: DBTABLE pointer = 0x40ca73a00, dbid = 1, state = 0x2, status= 0x1, keep = -2147483636, system task keep = 1350885, name = 'master'.

  • Error occurred due to a negative dbt_keep count (overflow).
  • The issue can be reproduced easily by repeatedly executing the "dbcc dbtable('master')" command which keeps on incrementing the dbt_keep count of the master database.
  • This issue is visible when customized optimization enabled and the optimization goal is changed to ASE defaults, either allrows_oltp or allrows_mix.
