2913799 - A Job Layout is not being applied to the job description - Recruiting

Symptom

When posting a job requisition to RMK, it should have a job layout configured with a custom font and styling, but that is not being applied and the job layout is not being picked up.

Environment

  • SAP SuccesFactors Recruiting Management
  • SAP SuccesFactors Recruiting Marketing
  • Career Site Builder

Cause

There could be multiple causes for this issue. Currently, these are the ones we've been able to identify:

  1. The Job Field Mapping is mapping to another field;
  2. The Job Field Mapping is pointing to a non-existent option;
  3. The job description in RCM contains embedded styling. Possibly, the job description has been copied from somewhere else, such as a Word document.

Resolution

For each of the causes, see the Resolution and details below:

  1. The Job Field Mapping is mapping to another field;
    Ensure that your Job Field Mapping is correctly assigned to the job requisition you wish to apply the job layout to.
    Please note that if no job is posted with the value selected in the job layout, the job layout is displayed as invalid in CSB.

  2. The Job Field Mapping is pointing to a non-existent option;
    When you are selecting a Job Field Mapping in RMK, this comes from the field mapped from RCM. It will be populated based on RCM options. If the RCM option is no longer valid, like a Division that doesn't have any active users or is not assigned to anyone in the User Data File for enum Division field, the job layout will not be applied.

  3. The job description in RCM contains embedded styling. Possibly, the job description has been copied from somewhere else, such as a Word document.

    What happens is that RCM sends to RMK an HTML code with the job description. If you copy (CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the text into the job description field from another source, it's likely that it will carry over the embedded code if it has any, like a specific font or the bold text. In RCM if the description has been simply pasted, if it has any embedded code it will be forcing a style in the text in the job posting, because the job requisition posting source code sent by RCM will override whatever setting you have set in RMK for a job layout.

    As a background, the flow of a job posting into RMK from RCM is that RCM will configure the job fields (including the job description), and when the job is set to be posted in RCM, it will send to RMK an HTML source code with the description (if it has bold text, it will send to RMK with the bold tags, etc.). So, if the job description in RCM contains any HTML codes embedded, it will send to RMK with those tags, and RMK will post with it. It means that if RCM sends to RMK the description with any embedded code, it will overwrite the job layout in RMK.

    That happens when you are copying the information you are simply pasting it into the description text box from somewhere else. Hence, simply copying and pasting the information will bring the style of the description contained in the source into the system.

    To fix this issue and to also avoid this from happening in the future, you would need to paste the job requisitions as a plain text. To do that, you will have two options:
  • Copy the description from source > Paste it into Notepad > Copy it from Notepad > Paste it into the description box in RCM
  • Copy the description from source > In RCM, into the description paste the information using CTRL+SHIFT+V, which will also paste the description as plain text

    That will avoid the extra styling to come with the desription details. That means that any embedded font, bold, underline, italic will be removed from the description and would need to be reset in RCM.
