2917113 - Increase in index size after migrating text column from off-row to in-row - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • The text column of a table was modified from off row to in row lob after inserting many rows with null column values

  • After an update statement to the text column, like

    update <table> set <text_col> = <text_col> where <whereclause>

    it was noticed that the size of the index (indid 255) was considerably larger than the original size

  • New inserts in the table with in row do not increase the index size, only updates
