2917338 - Update of SAP HANA Database Client failed! Verification failed: .../SIGNATURE.SMF

Symptom

Update of SAP HANA server failed with error: Update of SAP HANA Database Client on host <hostname>. failed! Verification failed: /hana/shared/<SID>/client_instaler_kit_YYYY_MM_DD_HH_MM_SS/SIGNATURE.SMF

In hdblcm.log file, you may also observe the following entries:

14:46:03.168 - INFO: Installation kit of SAP HANA Database Client is not owned by root
14:46:03.168 - INFO: Copying installer of SAP HANA Database Client as root...

The update is completed for all components, except SAP HANA Database Client.
