2917690 - Integrating an External Resource (Staffing) Management System with SAP S/4HANA Cloud

You want to integrate an external resource management system with your SAP S/4HANA Cloud system, and want to understand the effects before activating this using the configuration Maintain Settings for Planning.

It is assumed that your external resource management system creates staffing assignments for projects in your professional services business.

When you activate integration with an external resource management system, the following behavior is expected:

1. In the Plan Customer Projects and Plan Internal Projects apps, project managers will only be able to plan efforts and request a resource. However, staffing assignments must be made from the external system only.
2. Resource managers will no longer be able to use apps that were available with Advanced Resource Management – Project-Based Services (Scope Item 1KC).
3. An example of an external integration is the Commercial Project - Create, Update API. To exchange information between an external system and SAP S/4HANA Cloud, you must establish a communication arrangement using the communication scenario Commercial Project Integration (SAP_COM_0054). You may use the following entities to create resource demands and staffing assignments:

• Resource Demands
• Resource Demand Distribution
• Resource Supplies
• Resource Supply Distribution

4. In the respective entities, information such as planned cost and planned revenue is with reference to the resource demand and resource supply respectively. For example, the planned cost and revenue for a resource demand is based on the respective rates for the role. Whereas for a resource supply, the planned cost and revenue is based on respective rates for the staffed person
