2922873 - Backup fails to HP Data Protector with error 8009

Symptom

  • Backups using HP Data Protector fail, normally after a new installation or upgrade of Data Protector. The backupserver errorlog shows messages like this:

    Backup Server: 4.132.1.1: Attempting to open byte stream device: 'ob2syb:: ... '
    Backup Server: 4.124.2.1: Archive API error for device='ob2syb:: ... ': Vendor application name=Data Protector A.10.03, Library version=221, API routine=syb_open(), Message=

  • The DUMP command as run from isql just returns the error:

    Msg 8009, Level 16, State 1:
    Server ' ... ', Line X:
    Error encountered by Backup Server. Please refer to Backup Server messages for details.
