2924234 - Fields added by Data Source Extension are not properly displayed in PDF Preview

Symptom

In the 'Custom Fields' app, on the 'Data Source Extensions' tab, a data source extension is created for a Sales related data source, e.g. FDP_V1_ORDER_CONFIRM_SRV, and standard fields were added, like 'Shipping Point', 'Requested Delivery Date' and others.
However, after adding those fields to a form template, when checking the PDF Preview, those fields don't contain any data.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open the 'Custom Fields' app and choose the 'Data Source Extensions' tab.
  2. Add a new entry with data source of FDP_V1_ORDER_CONFIRM_SRV.
  3. Expand the list of available standard fields to navigate to the desired fields and add them.
  4. Save and publish the data source extension and add the fields to custom form template. For more information, see How to Create and Use a Custom Form Template. 
  5. Check that the custom form template is uploaded and the output determination is configured.
  6. Create a sales order and save it.
  7. In the output screen, when displaying the form by choosing the "Display Document" button, the added fields don't contain any data.

Cause

This is the standard system design. When standard fields are added to custom form templates using data source extensions, these fields are not displayed in the PDF preview, only in the final output.

Resolution

To check those fields' value on the PDF Preview while the output item is in status 'In Preparation', check 3111018 - How to Check Data Source Extensions Fields in The Output Form.

When the output item status is set to 'Completed', the fields' value will show in the PDF Preview correctly.
