2925203 - Error 701 when using hashbytes or hash function with MD5 algorithm - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • Using the hashbytes function or hash function with MD5 algorithm (Message Digest Algorithm 5) increases procedure cache utilization and generates a 701 error:

Msg 701, Level 17, State 3:
Server '<server>', Line 1:
There is not enough procedure cache to run this procedure, trigger, or SQL batch. Retry later, or ask your SA to reconfigure ASE with more procedure cache.

  • Other algorithm such as SHA and PTN will not generate the error.
