Symptom
After Project/WBS Element settlement, in the result screen, there are items for "No change".
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
Execute App Run Settlement - Projects - Actual
Cause
When running settlement, the system may display a “No Change” message. This can occur for several reasons:
-
The WBS Element Is Statistical
Statistical WBS elements do not carry real costs, so no settlement is required or executed. -
No New Actual Costs Since the Last Settlement
A settlement has already been performed, and no additional actual costs have been posted to the WBS element. Therefore, there is nothing new to settle. -
Actual Costs Are Assigned to a Profitability Segment
If the actual cost posting includes an account assignment to a Profitability Segment (PA segment), the WBS element receives the posting only statistically. Since the WBS is statistical in this case, no settlement is needed or possible.
Resolution
The system is working as designed.
How to Review WBS Element Details and Posted Actuals
Use the Projects – Actuals app:
- Enter the Project or WBS Element in the initial selection screen.
- In the results list, add the following columns for better analysis:
- Calendar Month
- Journal Entry
How to Review Previously Settled Values
In the Run Settlement – Projects – Actual app:
- Open the project in the app.
- Navigate to:
Menu → More → Goto → Previous Settlement
This shows the values that have already been settled.
Important Check: Account Assignment of the Journal Entry
Review the account assignment of the journal entry line item:
- The Account Assignment Category is EO (Profitability Segment).
- This indicates that the WBS element is only a statistical assignment.
- Because the posting is statistical in nature, it is not considered during settlement, which explains why no settlement activity occurs.
