Symptom
- On SAP systems running ASE 16.0 SP03 PL08 and up / ASE 16.0 SP02 PL09 and up, the following error is received in the ASE errorlog:
Error: 4218, Severity: 21, State: 2
Failure during DUMP of database 'saptempdb': serial log page allocation rules broken. Current page: 30882; next page: 0; piece end: 30887; end-of-scan: 30885.
- In a stand-alone SAP ASE, this error can be reported for a temporary database:
Error: 4218, Severity: 21, State: 2
Failure during DUMP of database tempdb: serial log page allocation rules broken. Current page: 1050088...
- On systems running Business Objects application, the error is reported on the master database.
- The error is raised by the ALERT collector which is part of the DBACockpit Collector Framework.
- An error alert is generated on FRUN when the above message is raised.
- saptempdb or tempdb or master space usage is adequate.
- saptempdb or tempdb or master is not being backed up - there are no DUMPs scheduled on these databases.
