2940724 - Using "+" or "-" symbol in the job search or the advanced rule editor in Recruiting Marketing

Symptom

What is the expected behavior when using the "+" or "-" symbols in Job Search or Rule editor in CSB?

Environment

  • SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting Marketing
  • Career Site Builder

Resolution

The "+" is a reserved symbol in Solr which acts as a boolean operator.

The "+" symbol (also known as the "required" operator) requires that the term after the "+" symbol exists somewhere in a field in at least one document in order for the query to return a match.

For example: Search for 10+ years and 10 years will show the same result

We experience a similar behavior with the "-" symbol. This symbol is also to be avoided in the job search or the rule editor.
