• The material description is maintained in the desired language for a material in the app “Manage Product Master Data”.
• However, when logging into the system in that language and creating a sales order, the material description in the item does not appear in the expected language.
• Additionally, this can affect output forms such as billing documents, where item text may not be displayed if the language assignment doesn't match output determination logic.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Maintain the material description in the desired language in the app “Manage Product Master Data”.

2. Set the sold-to party’s language in the Business Partner master data.

3. Create a sales order using app “Create Sales Orders - VA01”.

4. Enter the material.

5. Check the material description in the item and in the output (e.g., billing document form).

6. If the language assignment does not match the output determination logic, the description may not display correctly in the output.

By standard design, the language of the material description (and item texts shown in output) is determined by the following priority logic.

When creating or changing a sales order, the system determines the language of the material description using this 3-step logic, in order of priority:

1. If the material has a description in the same language as the sold-to party, that description is used.
2. If not, the system checks for a description in the sales organization’s language.
3. If neither exists, the system falls back to the logon language of the user.

Important Notes

• This behavior also applies to item texts shown in billing output forms.
• If the form template language (determined via output parameter determination) does not match the language in which the material description or item text is maintained, that text will not appear in the output.
• This is standard system behavior and cannot be overridden automatically.
• To ensure texts are shown in the output, maintain material descriptions and sales texts in the language that aligns with the output form’s logic.
