Symptom

  • Client connection unexpectedly terminated
  • ASE errorlog contains an infected with 11 error at address mbkt_do_alloc

    Current process (0x4ffd0136) infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
    Address 0x0x0000000002216727 (mbkt_do_alloc+0x927) ...

  • with a stack trace that includes the following functions:

    mbkt_do_alloc
    ubfallocf
    varpkt_alloc_with_retry
    usincpktsz
    login_varpktsz

  • Subsequently ASE reports many more of this signal 11 or, more commonly, many instances of a timeslice, with its own stacktrace

    timeslice -1501, current process infected at 0x2249cb7 (pausenonatomic+0x9)
    timeslice error: spid 12345 exhausted its 'time slice' of 100 milliseconds and additional 'cpu grace time' of 1500 ticks (150000 milliseconds). It has been marked for termination.
