2954988 - Duration/Time Spent on Online Courses - Enhancement Request

There is a need to find how much total time users are spending on course content without using the Total Hours, CPE Hours, etc. fields.

There is no simple way in the system to pull this information if you are looking for a historical global view of a particular course.

The only report to pull this information is the Online Item Status report which might satisfy your needs if looking at a small population and recent completions. Please see 2165958 for better understanding how this report works.

Currently the system only has a total time value that is passed over from SCORM and AICC content. Not all content is configured to send TOTAL_TIME data or might not send it correctly which is an issue that should be looked at by your content developer. Basing information from the time sent via the content should be taken with some skepticism. Other reasons that Total Time might have skewed data are:

• Users leaving content open for long time with no progression
• Users redoing sections of the content
• We do not stop content from sending new data after content/item completion. Users might review previous completed content that overwrites the previous Total Time.

A possible option to explore is to create a custom report to pull data from the Initial Access of the content to the Completion Date of the Item or possibly the content object. This might not be the best solution as you might have multiple content objects. If looking at the completion of the content object compared to the initial access, to reiterate, we do not stop the content from sending new data thus if the content sends an incomplete flag, the completion/finished fields will be overwritten.
