2956394 - Uncertainty in ranking of matches/matching stars in Mentoring Programs

Symptom

Why are matches ranked differently/different star rating for matches that have the same score?

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Career Development and Mentoring

Reproducing the Issue

When matches are finalized and there are only few users in the system, you may notice that participants with the same score may have different stars in the matching results tab. Causing confusion with Mentoring Administrators.

Resolution

Currently the matching levels for supervised Mentoring programs are produced as below:

  1. Firstly the system calculates the matching score of each pair of mentor and mentee based on the formula of # of matched questions/[Mentee’s valid answered questions].
  2. Secondly the system ranks all the pairs according to their matching scores, and takes the top 75%-100% and mark them as 3 stars; and 50%-74.99% 2 stars; and 0%-49.99% 1 star.

Since the system is forced to find who has 3, 2, 1 stars repectively, given all matches have the same score. System will still rank them differently in random manner instead of giving them the same stars at all since matching system tries to distribute these matched accordingly.

Product Management is reinventing the logic for this however there is no commitment on when this will be applied/rolled out.
