2960764 - Date Range not functioning in Story report due to "As of Date" filter in Query Designer

Symptom

  • How to configure a Date Range for the Story Report built on Effective Dated objects?
  • After setting a Date Range filter for a specific Date field, the Story widget (Table or Chart) data remains unchanged.

Environment

  • SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite
    • Analytics & Reporting  (Ad Hoc, YouCalc, ORD)
      • Story Report
        • Query Designer - Filter, Calculated Column, Params

Cause

  • The Story report may not respond to the date range set due to the presence of an "As of Date" filter in the underlying data query.
  • This "As of Date" setting in the Query Designer takes precedence over any date range defined in the Story.

Resolution

You need to tell the Query Designer to look at a "Date Range" instead of a single "As of Date."

  1. Go into your Story's Data Source:

    • Edit your Story.

    • Select "Edit Datasource" (or similar option) for the table or chart that's having the issue.

    • Find the specific object (e.g., "Job Information") linked to your data.

  2. Adjust the Time Filter in the Query Designer:

    • Click the Filter icon for that object (e.g., Job Information).

    • Look for the "Time Filter" setting. It's probably currently set to "As of Date."

    • Crucially, you need to change this.

      • First, "Remove Filter" for the current "As of Date."

      • Then, select "Date Range" (or "Date Range After") as the new Time Filter type.

    • Define the desired broad date range scope at this query level (e.g., "Jan 1, 1920 to Dec 31, 2020"). This sets the maximum historical range your report can ever pull from.

    • Click "Finish" or "OK" to save these changes in the Query Designer.

  3. Set Your Specific Date Range in the Story Designer:

    • Once you're back in the main Story Designer view, the "As of Date" prompt that was previously fixing your time filter will now be gone.

    • You can now correctly define your desired "Effective Start Date" or "Effective End Date" filter directly in the Story (e.g., "Jan 1, 2010 - Aug 21, 2020").

Result: Your Story report will now correctly display records that are effective within the specific date range you set in the Story Designer, no longer being limited by a hidden "As of Date" filter.
