Symptom
You change the Serial Number Profile for one of your Input Products of a production to Mandatory on all Logistics & Production Processes. After this change, two Make Tasks are generated from Production Order XXX. As the Task-Generation Method set in Production Model is Operation including Reporting Point and there is no reporting point set, you expect only one Make Task.
Before the change in Serial Number Profile, only one Make Task was created.
XXX = Production Order ID
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to Production Control work center.
- Select Task Control view.
- Search for Production Order ID XXX.
- Notice that two Make Tasks are generated.
Cause
When the input products are assigned to a certain activity the confirmation is assigned as Backflush, then system will assign the components to the task which is having the reporting point (after that activity), as the backflush quantity is determined by reporting quantity.
The confirmation is assigned as Explicit, then system will assign the components to the task, which is having that activity.
When the products are not serialized and the confirmation method is maintained as the Backflush, system assigned the components to last task (which is associated with reporting point), independent of their individual assignments to activities in production model.
When we change the Serial Number Profile to Mandatory on all Logistics & Production Processes, components become serialized. Serialized products will always be considered as Explicit (even if in production model the confirmation method is maintained as Backflush), as system cannot backflush the quantities by auto determining Serial Numbers. Since they are considered Explicit, system respects the activity assignment in production model.
Resolution
As the Confirmation Method is different for serialized products, the system is working as designed.
