2967283 - Multiple LDAP Configuration and High Availability LDAP configuration for AS Java

Symptom

To explain basic understanding on the difference between Multiple LDAP Configuration and High Availability LDAP configuration for SAP NW AS Java.

Overview

SAP NW AS Java system can be configured to use LDAP directory as datasource (userstore). In large organisations, users can be stored in different LDAPs based on certain criteria, for eg. employees, customers, vendors/suppliers, etc. Each category of users be stored in one LDAP server. SAP NW AS Java server can be configured to connect to all such Multiple LDAP servers and fetch user data as and when required.

In PROD systems using LDAP as user store, LDAP server itself can be a single point of failure. If LDAP server crashes, NW Java system will stop working as no user information can be retrieved. In such situations, standby LDAP server(s) can be configured in High Availability environment. When main LDAP server crashes, NW AS Java server connects to next available LDAP server configured. In this way, business continuity is maintained.
