2968472 - JDM to JPB Migration Common Scenarios & Behavior

Symptom

This article provides information on data migration scenarios and behaviors when migrating from JDM to JPB:

  • Some records (e.g. competencies, families, mapping) from JDM did not migrate to JPB;
  • Migration job failed.

Image/data in this KBA is from SAP Internal Systems, sample data, or Demo Systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.

Environment

  • SAP SuccessFactors Job Description Manager (JDM)
  • SAP SuccessFactors Job Profile Builder (JPB)

Reproducing the Issue

Enable Job Profile Builder

Job Description Manager (JDM) is enabled by default in all environments, and there is no option in Provisioning to disable it per instance. On instances not using JDM - no data ever created for Families and Roles - that would like to enable and start using Job Profile Builder (JPB), there is no pre-work necessary before enabling the feature:

  1. Go to Provisioning > Company Settings;
  2. Enable the option "JDM v2.0/Skills Management";
  3. Save Changes.

NOTE: Job Profile Builder can only be enabled and migrated through Provisioning, so to complete this request you will need to engage an Implementation Partner.

Migrate Job Description Manager Data (JDM/Legacy Data)

Now, for instances using Job Description Manager (JDM) data - pre-existing data for Families and Roles - it is necessary to prepare the JDM data before enabling JPB, and running the migration job in Provisioning. Checks for JDM and JPB are available in Admin Center > Check Tools, to indicate what data needs to be corrected in JDM before moving to JPB, and if any data was not migrated to JPB after migration job. Check the WIKI JDM & JPB Check Tools.

Once JDM data is ready to be migrated to JPB, and JPB setting is already enabled for your instance, the migration job in Provisioning can be trigged:

  1. Go to Provisioning > Company Settings;
  2. Under the setting JDM v2.0/Skills Management, click "Migrate":
  3. Provide an admin user as job owner, and run the job:

  4. Go to Monitor Jobs to verify if job complete successfully, by searching for the job type "JDM Old to New Sync".

NOTE: Job Profile Builder can only be enabled and migrated through Provisioning, so to complete this request you will need to engage an Implementation Partner.
