2971854 - How to Control visibility of Background Elements fields according to the Candidate Type - Recruiting Management

Symptom

Is there a way to change the visibility of the fields inside a Background Element according to the type of the Candidate (Internal or External)?

Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.

Environment

Resolution

Yes, the way to do it is through template configuration changes, but this type of configuration is limited to be done through the XML.

On this example we are looking to have only one fields being displayed on for the External Candidates for the Background Element outsideWorkExperience, while for internal candidates, having all the fields shown.

  1. The permission configuration for the internal candidates would be as the following:

That asterisk (*) on the data-field-id represents all the fields inside the Background Element.

  2. Now for external candidates we would like to grant permission to only one candidate, so we will have the following permission set up:

On this case, only the Company Name field will be visible/editable to external candidates.

  3. Now, this is how Internal candidates view the portlet on their profiles:
  4. When we access as an External candidate we see the following:

NOTE:

  • Indicating the data-field-id is currently not possible in Manage Templates and hence this type of configuration change can be done via XML only
  • When adding the permission block in Candidate Profile, it is required to have type, source, country, and field. The Candidate Profile XML Template will not be saved / uploaded if the permission block is missing one of these required elements.
