2972536 - Alphanumerical Values are Accepted as the Value of Phone Number Type Fields

Symptom

When you maintaining values for extension fields of Phone Number data type, you find that alphabets can be accepted for these phone number values.

Environment

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Maintain alphabets values for fields of Phone Number Type.
  2. Save.
  3. Save successfully and alphabets values are accepted as phone numbers. 

Cause

 This is the expected system behavior.

Resolution

The phone field accepts entries with alphanumerical values, as it can indeed be desired to enter alphanumerical values as a telephone number.

In some countries like US, alphanumerical phone numbers have established as they are more convenient to remember and could have a better recognition value than numerical ones.
