Symptom

  • Installing a new SAP Business Suite system with ASE
  • Raises error when creating database: 

ERROR 2020-10-06 13:34:52.159 (root/sapinst) id=controller.stepExecuted errno=FCO-00011
SYB_DB_CONTEXT|0|syb_step_setup_preload was executed with status ERROR
(Last error reported by the step: Assertion failed: Unable to setup database device files. DISK INIT encountered an error while attempting to open/create the physical file for device '/sybase/SID/sapdata_1/SID_data_001.dat'. Refer to trace file sapinst_dev.log and ASE error log for further information).

  • ASE log reports 

kernel dcreate: insufficient space on device '/sybase/SID/sapdata_1/SID_data_001.dat'.
