Symptom
Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.
You would like to save G/L Account master data or create a new G/L Account without entering 'Group Account Number' field, but error message FH740 appears when saving: "Make an entry in field in 'Group Account Number'.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Open SSCUI 150001 - Manage G/L Account Master Data
- Copy existing G/L Account to create a new G/L Account, enter G/L Account details and save
- Error message FH740 occurs.
Cause
It is standard system behavior.
The reason why the system asks you to maintain "Group account number" is that scope item XX_3AF is installed upon request in your system. However, scope item XX_3AF is not needed in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition - neither for accounting, nor for consolidation(=Group Reporting). The only usage of XX_3AF is providing the mapping for external system usage - like BPC or 3rd party consolidation tools. In other words, YGR1 is not used inside SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, the only purpose of this CoA is for external consolidation tool usage.
So by default it is not in scope and only on customer demands to be installed. To check it, you can go to Manage Your Solution -> View Solution Scope -> search key words "XX_3AF":
In the standard system, consolidation chart of accounts YGR1 is assigned to standard group of accounts YCOA. If you perform consolidation in an external system, you need to assign group account numbers to the G/L accounts included in chart of accounts YCOA. SAP will not pre-deliver group accounts for customer in Q system(we only deliver the SAP reference group accounts in starter system).
To check it, you can go to Manage Your Solution -> Configuration Your Solution -> SSCUI 102422 - Edit Chart of Accounts List:
Resolution
Currently the scope item XX_3AF is installed in your system, if you have the exact purpose to use it externally, you should know the mapping clearly.
If not, in your account maintenance tile, input a dummy account (we suggest) or any accounts as Group Account Number. With this approach, you can proceed with your G/L master data maintenance and there will be no impact to your system.
Note that in a production environment, if there is any document posted to the G/L account to which a 'Group Account Number' was assigned, you must not remove or change this field Group Account Number anymore.
