2984709 - How to Set Sub WBS Elements as Billing Element

Symptom

When creating a Project with Revenue in app "Project Control - Enterprise Projects", it is not clear how to set sub WBS elements as billing element.

"Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental."

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to app "Project Control - Enterprise Projects" to create a project with revenue.
The 'Billing Element' indicator is set on by default for the 1st level WBS.
  2. Go to "Related Apps" -> "Project Planning" to create a 2nd level WBS.
  3. Click on the Settings button on the top right corner to show column 'Billing Element'.
  4. 'Billing element' for the 2nd level WBS is shown as 'No' and is not editable.

Cause

As per SAP Help Portal, a project with revenue must contain at least one billing element. You can define multiple billing elements at different levels of the project structure. However, a billing element cannot have another billing element in its subtree, nor can it be part of the subtree of another billing element.

Resolution

Please tick off the indicator 'Billing Element' for the 1st level WBS then wait for a second.
Then it will be possible to tick on the 'Billing Element' for the 2nd level WBS.
