Public Dimension Hierarchy disappears in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)

Reproducing the Issue

1. Create a new "generic" public dimension

2. Save it

3. Go to "Data Management area"

4. Import data from a file

5. Select the file (use first row as column headers)

5b. Click "Import" Button

6. Map "member" to Dimension ID and "description" to Description

7. Click "Finish Mapping" and the next "Finish" Button

8. Wait for the data to be imported

9. Exit the dimension editor

10. Edit the public dimension

11. Under Dimension Settings, create a new Parent-Child Hierarchy

12. Make its ID "Hierarchy1", click done

13. Save the dimension

14. Click "Data Management"

15. Import data from file

16. Select another file (use first row as column headers)

17. Click import

18. Map "memberid" to "Dimension ID" and "parentId" to "Hierarchy1". UN-MAP description if it was auto-mapped

19. Click "Finish Mapping" and the next "Finish" Button

20. Wait for the  file to be imported

21. Exit the dimension editor

22. Edit the public dimension

23. Likely row #2 is highlighted red as the Dimension ID and Hierarchy1 have the same entry of <root>

24.Select and delete the invalid row

25. Click Save (note the hierarchy column still has data)

26. Exit the Dimension editor

27. Edit the public dimension

28. ISSUE REPRODUCED: Hierarcy1 column no longer has data!!!


SAC uses <root> in the UI to indicate that a node is a root node.


Don't use in your excel sheet <root> to indicate that a member is a root and just leave the column empty.
