Symptom
You are creating a copy of the existing BoM XYZ (XYZ represents the exact ID of the BoM) variant to a new BoM. However, the line item 30 (we will use this as an example to expain this behaviour) is not copied in the new BoM.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to the Work centre "Planning and Production Master Data".
- Select the View "Production Bills of Material".
- Find the BoM XYZ.
- Click the button "Copy".
Result: you can see that line item 30 is not present in the created copy of the BoM.
Cause
When you open the original BoM, you will see that there are two records for the line item 30. One of them is for the product ABC (ABC represents the exact ID of the product) and the other one for the product DEF (DEF represents the exact ID of the product).
The product ABC is assigned to a Variant 1 (which we want to copy) and the subsequently created product DEF is assigned to Variant 2.
In such cases, you need to create a new line item with the new product DEF because if you use the same line item ID for two different products, then the system will substitute the existing line item with the new one (product) even if same is still valid.
Resolution
This is the correct and expected behaviour of the system.
The product from the original variant will only be transferred to the new variant if no new product is added to its line ID.
